Coach's MEDLEY-swim notes from Coach Kelly
  • Thank you to everyone for their efforts in making our first week a success!  At this stage in the season we have swimmers that are in a variety of places so it's important to remember not to compare. Find a skill or two to focus on and we will improve day by day.

  • On Tuesday night we will be holding a "mock" meet for our 12 and unders to help prepare for our first meet Saturday.  It’s an opportunity for us to learn how clerk of course is organized, how swimmers line up as well as the sounds that go into the start of the race.  The coaches and possibly a few parent volunteers will guide swimmers through clerk, heats, starts, and relays.  All new swimmers with the 13 and up group will be coached individually on how to navigate a meet.

  • Swim buddy cards are in your mailbox, if you are a new family to the team your folder is being made up and will be available this week to get your swim buddy assignment! The mailbox folders are in a hanging file cart that lives just outside the guard office during practices. If buddies have the opportunity to write a note or pick up a little something for the first meet this weekend it would be the perfect time to say hi!

  • IMPORTANT! – Due to Coach Kelly’s school year continuing through the entire week, she will not have any additional time to navigate late add-in’s for relays.

***Please remember to declare whether or not you will be swimming in this Saturday's Meet against Westside and High Point at High Point pool by Wednesday of this week (see "This Week's Meet" below for the link you'll need to confirm your commitment).***

  • If you are swimming at the meet, please let us know if you CAN NOT swim in a medley relay or free relay by writing a note in the "notes" box (i.e. "must leave early for soccer game") If you don't indicate you CAN'T do a relay, we'll assume you can, and your swimmer will be placed on a relay team (hooray!!!)
  • Unified Swimmers should talk with their coaches about what events they'd like to swim. Your coaches will sign you up for the meet—no need to do it through the website!

  • Meet Attendee’s: Please plan to wear the team suit or a blue or black suit plus your MO Cap.  Coach Kelly really appreciates this as this helps to keep track of MO Swimmers.  Minimum requirement is a MO Cap, there will be a limited amount for purchase or to use if you do not have one.

DEEP DIVE—dive notes from Coach Jan

Hello Monona Dive Families,

Week one of preseason is complete and it was a great start to the season!

Week two:  Continue to build on week one's successes.  We encourage you to sign up, but it is not required and we understand if an athlete decides not to go.  This week we will be gearing practices towards a first meet of the season experience.  We will begin building dive lists on Wednesday and will be working with a parent familiar with the software used in dive meets.  IMPORTANT: We would really like to know if an athlete is going to sign up for the meet by Wednesday evening's practice at 5:30pm!

Dive Team Doughnut Fridays: On Fridays doughnuts will be earned and enjoyed following our rigorous, grueling, exhausting, fun! Friday AM practices.  Please use the link here to sign up Doughnut Friday. Please let Coach Jan know if you are able to contribut to the doughnut fund by claiming a day listed.  On behalf of our outstanding team of dive coaches: Thank you!

If you have questions please email Coach Jan

Thank you for your continued support for your diver and for our program.

Coach Jan

Apparel & Second Harvest

Apparel:

  • Liz will be at the pool during practices on Monday and Tuesday evening for apparel pick up as well as team t-shirt distribution.

  • If for some reason you are unable to pick up your apparel order please email Liz for other arrangements.

Second Harvest:

  • Each year, the 13 swim & dive teams in the All City League compete with each other to benefit Second Harvest Foodbank. Since 2008, the league has provided more than 1.9 million meals through funds raised, food donated & volunteer hours given. With food insecurity at a very high level, Second Harvest needs donations more than ever. This year, our funds will stay within the community and benefit the food pantry at Nuestro Mundo School in Monona.

  • There will be many ways throughout the season to help raise money for Second Harvest.  Look for those announcements in our weekly newsletters.

  • If you have any questions or any ideas for raising food or funds, feel free to reach out directly to Chris or call 608-661-0369. Thanks in advance for your support!

 CHLORINE CORNER (Misc. information)

Volunteer sign up is open swim and dive!!

  • Lots of options available to help out the team!  We really depend on Volunteers throughout the season to make this team great.  Please refer to the Volunteer Policy (link) on our website for further details.
  • We already have a 1/3 of the needed spots filled for swim!  Way to go MO Swim families.  As most of our families know it takes a literal Village to run a swim meet.  It doesn't take as many people for a Dive meet but it still takes parent volunteers to make them succesful so please sign up if you can!
  • To those who cannot volunteer at meets there are social activities and other misc. positions that will be added throughout the season.

Calling all those who are interested in being an official!

  • It takes a lot of helping hands to run a swim meet, and our young swimmers can’t get times without the involvement of many volunteers. And who has the best view of the action? Officials! Officiating is fun and not difficult to learn. It’s a great way to help out MO! Additionally, MO has been fortunate to have had a great crew of officials helping at every meet. For several, this will be their final year. We need folks just like you to step up and contribute! Note that officiating does count towards the volunteer requirements. AND, you do NOT need to have USA certification to officiate in the summer All City League.  If you were unable able to attend the Sunday training and are considering becoming an official please reach out to Brian Johnson.
